Mohamed Hagi is a diplomat, politician and academic. He combines considerable distinctive feats of being a professional person with extensive experience in the various fields of diplomacy, academia, policy making programmes and strategic systems of governance.
Through his career, he has been a Senior Political Advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Somaliland. Prior to the foreign policy career, he worked with the Ministry of Finance Development of Somaliland as a Senior Policy Advisor.
He also worked with the international and UN agencies as well as international organizations in Somaliland and abroad as an Executive Director, a Programme Manager and a senior policy advisor for 13 years. In 2020, Mohamed is appointed by the President of Republic of Somaliland to become Somaliland’s first Chief Representative to Taiwan.
Mohamed holds a PhD in Political Science and International Relations from the Department of History, Politics and Philosophy at Manchester Metropolitan University. His doctoral work focused on Turkey’s New Strategic Relations in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular emphasis on Somalia and Sudan. Mohamed earned a Master of Arts in International Development and Bachelor of Arts in Politics and International Studies from the University of Warwick.
