Somaliland Delegation Visit to Taiwan

On Feb 8th, 2022, a high-level delegation from Somaliland led by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Essa Kayd Mohamoud arrived in Taiwan. The members of the delegation also include Somaliland Minister of Finance Saad Ali Shire, Somaliland Minister of Health Omar Abdilahi Ali, and Somaliland Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Saeed Mohamed Sulub. The delegation was welcomed with the highest diplomatic protocol and received by members from MOFA, Taiwan, and the Somaliland Representative Office in Taiwan.

The aim of the delegation was to strengthen the bilateral ties and recognize the remarkable benefits of building cooperation in diverse areas which is mutually beneficial to the two countries. During their visit, the delegation met with Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu, Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua,, Council of Agriculture Minister Chen Chi-chung, Coast Guard Administration Director-General Chou Mei-wu, Deputy Minister of Ocean Affairs, Dr. Mei-Wu Chou and Taiwan External Trade Development Council Chairman James Huang, as well paid visits to organizations, including the International Cooperation and Development Fund, CPC Corporation, and CECI Engineering Consultants, Inc., to discuss areas where the two countries can work together. The delegation also talked with the international and local press on the Somaliland Taiwan relations and the purpose of their visit.

During the meetings, the two sides agreed on future cooperation in the areas of maritime security, agricultural development (livestock and fishery), health cooperation, economic cooperation, and other areas of mutual interest. The ministerial visit ended successfully, and it was agreed to continue the communication and cooperation through the representative offices of the two countries in respective capitals. After a four-day stay in Taiwan, the delegation departed from Taoyuan Airport on 12 February.
